Governance

Self-evaluation is a process through which an individual teacher, groups of staff, the staff as a whole and senior management, including the management committee or governors: reflect on their current practice; identify and celebrate the strengths of the private and voluntary pre-school setting, school, nursery unit or nursery school; identify and address areas for improvement in their work; engage in personal and shared professional development; and focus on improving the quality of learning and teaching, and the standards of achievement in the organisation. Self-evaluation is a systematic process involving the staff and the management group or governors and, where necessary other members of the organisation's community, such as, parents and pupils.

The Inspection and Self-Evaluation Framework (ISEF) for Management Groups is a resource to support management groups of private and voluntary playgroups in their on-going process of self-evaluation and to provide transparency in the inspection process by the publication of key indicators of effective practice.  It is designed to complement the phase specific ISEF intended for use by leaders, staff and management groups.

The Inspection and Self-evaluation Framework (ISEF) for Governance is a resource to support governors of nursery schools, primary (and nursery units in the context of the primary school), post-primary and special schools in their on-going process of self-evaluation and to provide transparency in the inspection process by the publication of key indicators of effective practice. It is designed to complement the phase specific ISEF intended for use by teachers and senior leadership across all sectors.  During inspection, the Education and Training Inspection (ETI) team use this framework to evaluate the quality of the strategic and corporate work of the board of governors.  A basis for discussion with the ETI in primary (and nursery units in the context of the primary school), post-primary and special schools is a pre-inspection questionnaire completed by the governors.   In this questionnaire, the governors self-evaluate the effectiveness of their work against this framework.  The inspectors will evaluate the quality and accuracy of the evidence provided and use the inspection evidence normally gathered, to verify and quality assure the internal self-evaluation of the governors.

The Inspection and Self-evaluation Framework (ISEF) for Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) Governance Groups is a resource to support governance groups in their on-going process of self-evaluation and to provide transparency in the inspection process by the publication of key indicators of effective practice.  It is designed to complement the phase specific ISEF intended for use by leaders, staff and management groups.
