Purpose
The Education and Training Inspectorate’s mission and vision is:
Promoting improvement in the interest of all learners
The Education and Training Inspectorate focuses on ensuring that every child/young person gets a high quality education and the best life chances.
The Education and Training Inspectorate:
- engages with and listens to children and young people and reports on the quality of their learning experiences; and
- is passionate about all children and young people’s learning, achievements and their access to equality of opportunity to realise their potential and develop the life skills needed to be economically active.
The work of the Education and Training Inspectorate supports the Children and Young People's Strategy 2017 – 2027: “To work together to improve the well-being of all children and young people in Northern Ireland - delivering positive long lasting outcomes”
How we do this?
During an inspection, we learn about the children and young people’s views of school life and their experiences through:
- analysing questionnaires completed by children and young people (as appropriate), parents and staff;
- meeting with groups of children and young people;
- observing learning and evaluating samples of work during lessons and beyond the classroom; and
- discussing with teachers, co-ordinators, other staff and governors the impact of action to promote improvement in the children and young people’s outcomes and the quality of their learning experiences.
