The role of the District Inspector (DI) is central to the work of the Education and Training Inspectorate. Most inspectors are deployed as District Inspectors and support and challenge their district schools in the best interest of the children and young people.
The work of the District Inspector complements and supports the scheduled programme of inspections and provides a valuable opportunity to engage professionally, outside the context of formal inspection. At all times, the District Inspector reports as they find in order to promote improvement in the best interest of all learners.
District Inspectors:
- gain a detailed knowledge and understanding of the schools in the locality and their context;
- are usually team members on full inspections of schools in the locality; and
- usually lead follow-up, sustaining improvement and monitoring inspections in their locality.
