Inspection Summary Report - Edenbrooke Primary School
Edenbrooke Primary School
DE Ref No 101-0323
Inspection Summary Report - December 2025
- The new school vision ‘Achieving, Believing, Succeeding Together’ embodies high expectations for the children and belief in their potential for success within a well-supported learning environment. The associated aims address the holistic needs of the children with a focus on developing skills to be confident, happy, resilient and contributing members of society.
- The staff are in the first year of a new three‑year school development plan that includes a well-informed and comprehensive range of priorities and associated action plans that were informed by all stakeholders including the children and parents. The staff have identified appropriately that it would be beneficial to have a sharper focus on a smaller number of key priorities over this year.
- The children are well-motivated, polite and ready to learn. They are welcoming, thoughtful and confident in engaging with adults. The children take pride in their achievements, both inside and outside of school, which are acknowledged and celebrated in assemblies, and through a range of awards.
- Where learning and teaching is most successful, the children benefit from high expectations, purposeful questioning and effective adaptations to the curriculum to meet the needs of all the children. The staff now need to build on these strengths to embed this quality of practice more consistently across all classes, including through sharing good practice, to enable every child to achieve, believe and succeed together.
- The introduction of an agreed assessment timetable demonstrates a positive move towards evidence-based practice. To achieve greater consistency in the planning, teaching and assessment for successful learning, including raising the standards in the children’s oracy, the staff are beginning to gather first-hand evidence of learning and teaching to identify the agreed strategic priorities and identify the necessary actions, and to measure the impact of the actions taken.
- The school’s recent improvement work is beginning to impact positively on the children’s reading comprehension, problem solving and information and communication technology (ICT) skills. The staff recognise the importance of consulting with the children on the curriculum and have begun to seek their views on how they learn best to enrich further their learning.
- The children’s health, well-being and safety is a priority for all staff. The school provides a safe nurturing environment where children are respected and they in turn respect others. There is a deep level of care and concern that children’s pastoral needs are met. The support for children extends to their families; the school offers support discretely and with generosity of spirit.
- The staff provide inclusive and well-targeted approaches to support the children with additional needs. The well-established positive relationships between the children and the staff, including an effective range of interventions, empowers the children to manage successfully their emotions, develop their confidence and improve their social and emotional skills. Further review of the targets and strategies within the individual education plans (IEPs) is required to monitor and evaluate the children’s progress more effectively.
- The school is proud of the well-established Shared Education partnership with Mercy Primary School and values immensely the meaningful collaboration with six other primary schools within the Shankill Primary Area Learning Community. These links and partnerships are expanding the staff’s knowledge and skills to support effectively the children.
- The parents/carers and families are valued members of the school community. The school has identified appropriately the need to strengthen further parental engagement to raise the children’s outcomes, improve attendance and encourage ambition grounded in community pride. Current school strategies for improving attendance are having some impact.
- At the time of the inspection, the evidence provided by the school demonstrates that the arrangements for child protection align to the current statutory guidance.
Next steps

The next steps for Edenbrooke Primary School are to take forward the following areas for action:
