The Learning Insight Profile in Further Education and Training Organisations

Date published: 10 April 2025

Type: Support Material
Organisational phase: Further Education,  Work Based Learning

The Learning Insight Profile (LIP) is a tool used to evaluate the effectiveness of planning, teaching/training and assessment for successful learning across a series of lessons/sessions. It is not a checklist for individual sessions but instead supports a broader understanding of how learners acquire and develop skills, attitudes and dispositions. Used during inspection, the LIP helps inform evaluations of learning, wellbeing and inclusion, while also identifying and affirming effective practice. In further education and training organisations, it can support self-evaluation, promote consistency and high standards, encourage professional reflection and collaboration, and guide improvement work at whole-organisation, department or programme level.
