Child or Adult Protection and Safeguarding

Site topics: Supporting self-evaluation

Since 2021, there has been extensive consultation and collaboration between the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI), schools and organisations in the design of a new model of inspection.

The ETI self-evaluation guidance on child protection and safeguarding has been reviewed to align better with the new Empowering Improvement Framework which published in May 2024.

Following review of the proformas there have been a few changes, notably an additional three questions within the section 'overview of child protection including review of key policy documents'.

The completion of the self-evaluation proformas will not be a requirement during any inspection activity being undertaken this year

This is the principal document for evaluating the arrangements for child protection.

Further self-evaluation documents for pastoral curricular teams and boards of governors/management committees are also available but there is no onus for the documents to be completed in advance of inspection.

ETI are keen to hear the views of schools and organisations in relation to the new self-evaluation proformas.
